WE LOVE :: Twilight Flooring Designs by BOLON

Twilight is the state where neither light nor darkness prevails. It is the frontier that divides the day between dark and light. The inspiration for the 2009 collection of floor designs from Bolon comes from the world of magic, and the colours are reminiscent of dusk. This inspires iscd!
Twilight by Bolon is a collection of shimmering woven metallic floors that come in three different qualities with different colours and structures.
Twilight has the same specifications as previous collections by Bolon, meaning functionality, fire safety, textile appearance, high comfort and environmentally friendly production.

Designers show their colours

On Thursday 17^th September four dynamic women now working as experts in their field, thanks to the International School of Colour and Design discussed how colour has changed their world (and careers).

Leaving their traditional professions behind to study and further their career in one of life’s great passions - colour and design, these women shared their journey and success stories at the bi annual ‘Meet the Professionals’ event.

International School of Colour and Design graduate, Kerry Copp was recently featured in The Sunday Telegraph’s Career One lift out. Kerry completed a Colour Design Diploma and Interior Styling Diploma and has since opened up her own business, Inspirations Paint and Colour. This year Kerry had her colour work selected for the finals of the Master Painter Association awards – congratulations Kerry.

WE LOVE :: Shavings by Yoav Avinoam

iscd has stumbled over budding furniture designer Yoav Avinoam. As a graduation major project, he has used wood shavings to create modern, practical, and environmentally conscious furniture — i.e. furniture created from sawdust.

Yoav uses sawdust waste from the Wood industry, he says this is a response to the way we look at our usage and exploitation of materials in modern culture. BOLD STATEMENT!

The sawdust (taken from different kinds of woods) is pressed with resin into a mold that already contains all of the object parts, there is huge opportunity when exploring new ways of integration between the legs of the furniture and the sawdust through expansion of the joints. This, and the way the sawdust crumbles toward the edges, creates a new material esthetics to a once destined to be waste material.

Spring at iscd

As you enter iscd the sweet smell of Jasmine fills the air thanks to the wonderful flower display created by iscd Educator Lisa Kohler. The walls of the gallery campus have been adorned with a wonderful spring flower display to brighten the campus and enliven our creativity.

Lisa has drawn her inspiration from a wild spring garden - abandoned birdcages are overflowing with colourful blooms and pretty butterflies (made of Porters wallpaper) have found their home among the display.
